Gilbert River Irrigation Investment Report April 2009 The Gilbert River in the Gulf Savannah has long been identified as having the potential to develop an irrigated agriculture industry. Serious investigations in this regard were undertaken by the Queensland Government from 1998 to 2000, resulting in a proposal to establish "Green Hillls" dam. Further investigations have recently been undertaken into the irrigation potential of the region, driven by recent private sector expressions of interest, and its significance as a nation-building and regional development initiative. The purpose of the report is to provide a balanced summary of the potential of the Gilbet Rvier and to facilitate Government and private sector investment in ythe irrigated agriculture opportunities. Savannah Way Completion Project Report April 2009, Free Publication From February 2007 to January, GSD managed a project to further develop the Savannah Way, the trans-continental 'adventure drive' linking Cairns and Broome. The project was funded by the Commonwealth Government (Australian Tourism Development Programme) and stakeholders, including the State Tourism Organisations of Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory. A major outcome was the establishment of Savannah Way Limited, a dedicated organisation to further promote, market and develop the route. This project lays a solid basis for an increase in the volume and value of tourism in remote communities across Northern Australia.

Gulf Savannah Housing Business Plan Report June 2008, $33 Prepared by consultants on contract to GSD, the summary version of this report reviews the existing housing situation in the Gulf Savannah, analyses the size and characteristics of the housing market, summarises housing supply options and recommends strategic responses to stimulate housing supply. Economic Leakage in the Gulf Savannah: Extent and Causes March 2008, $33 This 25 page report summarises the extent and causes of economic leakage in the Gulf Savannah region. The report draws upon existing studies relevant to the region and three sets of surveys undertaken by GSD in 2007-08, including a household shopping survey. Leakage is examined in the following areas: levels of local business ownership and local employment, household shopping patterns, business expenditure patterns, organisational expenditure patterns, tourist expenditure and investment. The report can assist to identify where there are opportunities for local provision of goods and services. Savannah Way: Travelers Survey February 2008, $16.50 Under a project managed by GSD, a survey of over 200 travelers on the Savannah Way was undertaken in 2007. The Savannah Way stretches from Cairns to Broome and traverses the Gulf Savannah. The 58-page report includes summary tables and all comments by survey respondents, and covers traveler profiles/ demographics, trip planning, experiences during the trip, and travelers' assessment of facilities and services.
