The World Heritage Listed Riversleigh sections of the Boodjamulla National Park (formerly Lawn Hill) contain a famous fossil field of enormous significance. Here, palaeontologists have discovered orders of creatures formerly unknown to science, doubling the sum of knowledge of Australia's unique fauna. Entombed in pale grey limestone formed in spring-fed lakes and pools that once nourished a vast rainforest are the perfectly fossilised remains of strange animals, birds, reptiles and plants that span 25 million years of Australia's unique evolutionary history.
