To the south of Georgetown & Forsayth, surrounded by towering sandstone walls, lies the Agate Creek Mineral Reserve, a designated fossicking area. The Agate Creek Mineral Reserve has been placed aside for agate fossickers and is considered to have some of the best specimens obtainable with exceptional quality and a range of rich colours. This is a region of rugged beauty that has been inhabited by an Aboriginal population that, according to their artefact remains, must have been sizeable. This out-of-the-way, but varied and rich locality of the Gulf Savannah is well worth exploring to get a full appreciation of the age and ecology of this dynamic wilderness zone.
